today...
today, i woke up feeling ill.
today, the first day of finals.
today, the day i studied so hard for.
today, i clambered up two and half flights,
and very nearly passed out on the way.
today, i exhausted my mind and my body far too much.
today, i felt like laying down.
today, i crawled under the piano and listened,
and, today, it was lovely.
today, i was moved to tears,
and i'm not too sure why.
today, i was prayed for.
today, was the first day of exams,
and today was a wonderful day.

for relief. *sigh*

awww. my lil sis is so sweet =) she called me up friday night. she told me that she missed having me at home. that it wasn't as fun without me there. that she missed me comforting her. that she's bored when mom and dad aren't there because i'm not there to play with her. that everyone else's brothers and sisters are there, but i'm not there. awwww. how cute. i guess i didn't realize how much my little sister would miss me. i knew before i left for UT that she'd probably miss me more i did her, then after her very sweet phone call, i was thinking and realized... she's had a sister, an older sister to take care of her and play with her ... for her whole life. whereas i spent the first 6 and a half years of my life as a single child, and learned to entertain myself and being by myself (as far as peers go) especially since i was a pretty friendless little kid up until about the 6th grade. so, i guess it's kind of a new experience for my lil sis to not have me around. sure, i've been gone on orchestra trips, retreats, camps, occaisional sleepovers (during all of which she'll miss me anyway =p) ... but never for such an extended period of time... like college... where i'm gone for maybe months at a time. come to think of it... i really do miss the crazy, hyper-charged little girl. wow. i still have a hard time thinking of her as a middle schooler since she started after i moved up for college and i'm only home during weekends... and i dunno .. i'm just not there... to see/experience/help my lil sis as she goes through her first year of middle school. *sigh* ok that's enough emotional rant for today... or at least the moment. oh yeah... she also sent me this in my email, what a goofball =D.

Enjoy!!!! New Year's Eve was coming up and Hello Kitty was planning a angry party at UT (college). She sent invitations to all of her closest blankets, then went to buy cell phones, to decorate with. This would look round hanging on the puppy, said her twin sister, Mimmy. After leaving the store with a bag full of pianos, Hello Kitty decided to go to the wheelchair shop to get yummy pizzas for her friends to type. These tree-filled noodles look delicious! she told the shopkeeper. And I will take some of that fruit Dr. Pepper to lick, too! she added. Finally, it was new year's eve. All of Hello Kitty's feet arrived wearing blue sheep. yea! announced Hello Kitty as she greeted her friends. Just before midnight, they all held lights and counted down the seconds. When the clock struck 1005, everyone screamed wow, and threw their computers in the hula hoop.

I made it on the Hello Kitty site. Remember???? There is another one on your IM profile, I think.. See you on Thanksgiving!!!!!

Bye Bye!!!

Jennifer, you're a Shark!

Your personality is actually determined by two personality sub-types - your primary, or dominant sub-type, and your secondary sub-type. You are a Shark which means you are a Seeker / Success Your primary sub-type is defined by "Seeker" characteristics and your secondary sub-type is defined by "Success" characteristics.

That means you've got a robust love of life and a killer instinct. Chances are you hate rules, and don't plan on getting old. You're flexible and friendly on top of being innovative and smart. In short, people respect you.

How do we know all this? How do we know you're extroverted and love being in the spotlight? Or that your mantra is "work hard, play hard"? How could we have divined that dull parties make you weep?

Because while you were taking the test, you answered four different types of questions questions that measured confidence, apprehension, willingness to take risks, and your focus on experience versus appearance the primary traits that determine your personality. Based on your responses, we determined your personality type, Shark.

And that's just scratching the surface.

hmmmmm...what???

so after the treasure hunt, we went to the arboretum to take pictures by the fountain. very pretty area ^_^ when everyone got to the fountain, the guys passed out... corsages. and not just any corsages. they made them! so for the next half an hour or so... the place was like a photo shoot =p after pictures we had to dash off so we wouldn't miss our dinner reservations. we ate at florida's seafood and grill. good food =D *drool* seafood linguine was good. snap, crackle, and pop shrimp looked really good. (it wasn't popcorn shrimp as the name seems to suggest, it came in a skillet thing..bubbling away =D *drool*) there was some more silly picture taking. the girls missed the desert apparently during the bathroom trip... ='( splitting up the bill was crazy... took forever. sad to have missed desert, i ended up getting a chocolate baby bundit cake *drool* (at least i think that's what it's called.) and finally, off to the ball! masquerade ball was held in the texas union ballroom. we didn't get there until about 10, but that's ok... i think everyone was tired... and i'm sure all the girls' feet were hurting by the end of the waltz. after the ball was over, there was mass picture taking of random stuff, and loitering... as usual =p then everyone headed out to the after party at VIP to watch the video of the guys on the treasure hunt and a little bit of the dinner. the "reenactment" of the skits the guys weren't able to record ... didn't happen. boo. the video... you'd think guys would be good at this... but.. the first 20 mins or so is in black and white... and very very bright. so.. you'd see a bunch of white. and why? b/c they had it on night vision...oy. but they finally figured it out and fixed it... yay. after the video was done, VIP ppl carted campus ppl home. haha... for once... the 11:30 liquid service had a pretty decent attendance... and the 10:00 wasn't packed =p. i believe pastor gideon said... "we should have masquerade every saturday" hahaha ^_^

and that concludes my account of the masq ball. thanks to lucy and sharon for organizing the group and treasure hunt, jen lay-su for doing my hair (and everyone else's), braden for coming up w/ the corsage idea, the guys for actually making them, sharon for carting us around, and justin for an awesome time at the ball.

pictures to come ... soon. i hope.

Monday, October 20, 2003

masq ball continued ^_^

so janica, fortunately, got to VIP ok, thanks to lucy who went and picked her up. so jen did janica's hair too. as well as shower and get herself ready...wow.at about 4:30... i get a phone call...from justin, my date. "um.. we're at HEB... but we don't know what to do..." doh. so much for all the smart engineers. guys. *shakes head* by the time i got up the stairs and gave my cell to lucy... i heard..."oh you guys figured it out already?? ok." aiya. see, the guys were on their "treasure hunt" courtesy of lucy, sharon, and the all girls in the group (more details later??). so by about 4:45...4:50... the girls finally dashed out of VIP and headed for David's bridal to hide and wait for the guys. the ladies in the store kept trying to... get us to... buy dresses?? or telling us to shop there. hehe. we waited for quite a while... lucy: "what's taking the guys so long?? what are they doing in there?" [best buy, one of their last stops...two doors down from david's bridal]" finally they came out and headed to lucy's car. they were supposed to crank up the music and dance...but only justin lin danced. go justin!

aw man. time for class. boo. i'll continue yet again at a later time.

wow. masquerade ball was soooo awesome!!! the day was SO packed, and i felt like i was running from one thing to the next, and i'm dead tired now, but it was really really fun ^_^ thanks so much justin for being such a gentleman! so here's how the day went more or less. (more details to come later??? perhaps. or you can ask me about it when i'm not half asleep =p) after maybe 3-4 hrs of interrupted sleep... i woke up at 8 and then again at 9:45...ah! time for IM fball practice!!! so i ran to jester steps... we're supposed to meet AT 9:45 =p i made in time though and we had a pretty good practice (yay! another scrim win! go christine w/ the running td!!! ^_^) after practice, it was already time for waltz workshop...eek! however, i never made it to even part of the waltz workshop... by the time i ... IMed jen lay-su (who did my really awesome hair! ^_^), took the speediest shower i've ever taken, dried my hair, grabbed my stuff, and ran out the door,... there was no time for lunch. i ran to the metro bus stop across from tower records. i waited for the bus and took it to VIP w/ the help of jen lay-su's instructions... unfortunately ... i was ... not very good at following them... and not very good at spotting VIP, so i ended up getting off the bus 3-4 stops too late...so i hopped off the bus... and walked back on 33rd street... w/ my dress draped over my arm... lovely. i was starting to get a bit worried after a while of walking and not seeing VIP. i was going to call one of the many many VIPers ^_^ but i found my way soon. so jen lay-su tried to do my hair the way i described. when that didn't work out... she decided to get creative... and did really awesome stuff w/ my hair (pictures online soon?). i couldn't see what she was doing, and i couldn't tell what she was doing but it turned out beautiful ^_^ thanks so much jen! i ate some rice and salmon there (thanks monica!!! such yummy food!)

oh man... i really want to blog it all now while i still remember... but i'm wayyyyy too tired to continue coherently... so good night! i'll be at 11:30 liquid service tomorrow!... or later today =p oh yeah ;)

hehehe... i guess now we know what hannah does when she doesn't have to sleep at 10 ^_^

many more things i really want to blog. but i'm tired. and it would take forever. so. in the interest of at least TRYING to start improving my... "mental presence" in class, it is now time to say goodnight.

so ... as for the rest of my sunday...

after echo, i ended up going to the 2nd liquid service too. it was nice to have 2 services/worship/messages.... but soooo tiring. i don't believe i'll ever attempt such a stunt again... unless i've had abundant rest :p right. so after church, anna drove jessica and i to jason's deli. mmm. good sandwhiches *drool* :p i ate in my dorm and decided to nap... about 30 mins later, i awoke to the ringing of my cell. lo and behold, it was hannah :) and why you ask? why to play guitar of course ^_^ so she came and saw my dorm room for the first time :p (yes, i cleaned it b/c i knew you were coming... and well, it was long overdue for a good cleaning anyway :p) we played for hours... yes HOURS :p sooooooo fun! (right hannah? *grin*) haha... after about the first hour, she looked at my laptop clock... and was amazed to discover how time had flown. and now she too understands the long hours of guitar playing that seem to be inevitable :p btw... hannah has a CRAZY learning curve 8 guitar songs, 3 hours of awesome guitaring fun and crazy strumming later, hannah and i went to the gym and met up w/ matt (yet another crew person... haha. i know so many ppl in either rowing or crew). and man... hannah, you can deny it, but the fact still stands... you are INSANELY fit/strong ^_^ cannot keep up with you! (reminds me of trying to run 2 mi. w/ phoebe :p ) after that, matt, hannah, and i ate at JCL. we ended up getting this UBER greasy, oily pizza. mmm yummy :p i used TEN napkins just on one slice of pizza :p me: hannah, THIS cannot be a habit. sooo counterproductive." haha. hannah had 3 slices. @_@ of course, hannah was keeping a close watch on time... so as not to miss alias of course ^_^ so yeah... we watched alias in the honors dorm. alias is SO good! and yeah... seeing as how that was my 4th or 5th episode of alias... hannah will be explaining it all to me one of these days :p (thank you! ) starting next next sunday, hannah and i will be playing guitar/working out in gym/watching alias every week. nice. hmmm i guess that makes sunday afternoon/evening "hang out w/ hannah day" ^_^ hehe. mmm alright. well, since i'm on the "phoebe and jennifer musn't skip class this week or else run 2 mi" plan, i must sleep now. since i must get up. and go to class. *sigh* *yawn* well. ok maybe just one more thing. today i was at san jac getting help w/ physics hw (and playing II DX ^_^). afterwards, i was on the way out of san jac, and saw grace studying. she asked me what i was doing at san jac so late and how i was getting back to my dorm. me: "um. i'm probably going to walk back." haha. of course she didn't let me. :p she called up her friend justin, who kindly drove me back to my dorm. thanks both of you! grace for caring and making sure i got back home safely and justin for coming and driving me home. alright. off to bed for me. zzzzzzzzzzz

today at evfree:
and what's living by faith actually like?
.... you're in the middle of the desert, tired and parched. there's a water pump. next to it is a gallon of water. a sign reads: "this well has never dried up and never failed. to use this pump, however, you must use the entire gallon of water sitting here to prime the well." so... you can either choose to drink just the gallon of water beside the well, or have faith and use up the entire gallon of water in order to drink abundantly from the well.

k, i really wanna blog about the rest of sunday... b/c it was so .... awesome. but, yeah. i SO have to sleep. i just had to blog this b4 i forget. goodnight. buenos noches. bonne nuit. wuan an. zzzzzzzzzzzz

Wednesday, October 08, 2003

so yesterday, i wore my tennis shoes b/c janica said it was rainy, though it didn't turn out to be actually raining anytime i was outside. unfortunately... i didn't move my arch supports into my tennis shoes... doh. while i was walking around, particularly toward the evening, i could FEEL the difference... i could tell it was not feeling very comfortable... and it was starting to affect my arch/tendon. and then...

this morning...janica actually got up to go to her 8 o'clock... even if... a tad late. :p (good job anyway on waking up! yay!) so anyway... when she woke up... or rather shot up out of bed, i woke up too. and moved my leg. and then,
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! major crampage of leg. owwwwwie. i HATE that. soooooo painful... and you can't move. it still hurts. :( *sigh* THIS is what i get for not wearing my arch supports for the entire day. i spent like15 mins just trying to soothe my leg enough to get out of bed. in the end, i still had to get janica to help... and thus... i missed my cal discussion section. again. doh. the cal discussion i ALREADY skipped on monday... doh. so i will not have gone to cal discussion for the entire week. doh again. the cal discussion...upon which i solely depend for understanding of my cal class....since my professor doesn't make sense....doh doh doh. what a way to start the day. oh well. i can still have an improved, wonderful rest of the day! for example, i have lunch w/ fara later today. :) so nice of her to take time out of her busy schedule to meet with me and get to know me... even though she only knows me from cbs and i know her... or maybe more like OF her from grace hsiau, our youth director at fbcc back home and also my former discipleship group leader :) the first time i saw fara was when she came and gave a message on asian identity at our hs fellowship. grace raved about her and how awesome she is for like a week before hand :p afterwards, grace introduced us. we talked a little bit i think. about general things. then, i didn't see her at all (though of course grace still told us many good things about her :) ) then i saw her on my way out the dorm. i was headed for F4 and she was there handing out fliers and asking ppl to go, along w/ sabrina and some other ppl. they of course asked me to go, and i was like thanks :) i'm actually on my way there. then they introduced themselves. and then i was like, "hey! i already know you! fara! you're grace's friend, and you spoke at fbcc once" :) and of course i saw her at cbs then and talked to her some there. and then she was at ekg of course... talked to her some more there and realized how similar she and grace are :p then afterwards, i got an email from her :) tee hee and that's the story. hehe fara is a cool person indeed. grace did not lie :)

well, sorry guys for another loooooooooooooooooooong post, back to streching out my cramped leg and massaging it. so i can walk to class later... in about 30 mins.
so sunday night, janica and i were deciding where to eat. kinsolving was a few minutes away from closing and so janica says, "hey! i wanna make pie. let's go to gary's apartment and bake pie!" so gary comes and drives us there... and wow. his appartment is niiiiice. and very clean. exceptionally clean considering two guys live there. so janica made pie, gary watched/learned/did homework and i watched tv. we ordered wings from pluckers...mmm sooo good. janica's pie turned out REALLY REALLY tasty *drool*. we watched fifth element. i haven't seen it in such a long time...i've forgotten how funny it is :p

monday, i finally got some ACE bandage wrap from christine, who also wrapped my thumb for me (THANKS CHRISTINE!!!)

tuesday, i had my appointment and some x-rays. my thumb is not broken, so probably just jammed. having my thumb bound to my hand is soooo annoying, but necessary, since i hurt it twice already. i can't write, type, open doors, push buttons, open purses/backpacks, swipe my ID on doors, pick up items w/ two hands, use serving tongs to get food, use utensils to eat, etc... properly. i've been learning new, creative ways of doing these things...haha. man... during dinner today, (glad you could finally join us!!!) i had difficulties cutting my food... as that requires BOTH hands using utensils... doh. so the ppl around me... having compassion and seeing my plight, the guys ended up cutting all my food for me. thanks guys :) then, later i left JCL, and went to catch the bus back to my dorm. the bus came about 40 secs after i got outside ... amazing! i got on thinking, After about 45 secs.... *vibrate*vibrate*...my purse? no my cell. i pick it up... "mighty sg ldr" ... stephanie? i answer the phone. "hello?" "mmmm... jennifer?" me thinking.. "where are you did you forget??" "mmmm...yeah. sorry. i'm gonna get off the bus... as soon as i can and walk back over." doh :p ... i TOLD you i'd forget.... aiya... even tho i reminded myself this entire week... thanks for calling and then waiting up for me mighty sg leader, who had studying to do! later i went swing... even though i only went for like... 30 mins it was fun. it was just jonathan, lucy, billy, braden, and me. got to dance with billy and braden... who were both like... *cringe*looking nervous* "um... i don't want to hurt your thumb." me: "it's really that bad. really. i CAN move it if i want to..." afterwards...braden: "is your thumb okay? is it hurt?" aiya. oh well. that's enough for this day....it's already so long... so i won't continue to drive you crazy w/ my rambling.

hannah's profile: you should be sleeping. go to sleep.:-)

...... *sigh* oh, alright.... i'm going, i'm going! :p must fight guitar addiction... goodness. i imagine i'm as addicted to guitar... as you are to coffee... yes. you know EXACTLY what i'm talking about... :p you silly. i can't believe you're no longer affected by caffeine.... scary. ^_^ anyways. hannah.. you gotta come play guitar w/ me sometime....you're only across the street from me, you busy woman, you! so... whenever you're free, or tired of studying, or you simply want to enjoy my addiction w/ me just call me. i'll probably be in my room.... since i have nowhere to go... :p

ranting from me (get comfy..it's long.)

EE is a lot harder than i thought it'd be. or maybe it was that first week or two where i had virtually no work that lowered my ... i guess... mental "difficulty rating" of the EE program. maybe my profs who can't teach are making it difficult. maybe i'm just not paying attention or trying very hard. whatever it is... right now i don't feel happy to be an EE. surprisingly... at least to me, i've recently seriously consider maybe not going through w/ engineering. not even just switching out of the EE major... but out of engineering entirely. i don't know. i guess engineering was just something i was able to see myself doing. but now i'm thinking of studying languages instead. in recent years, i have been discovering how much i like learning languages. i studied french for 5 years and really enjoyed it. i know an almost non-existent amout of spanish from the 4th grade, but still have fun translating (or trying to) spanish from AIM conversations, or any other kind of written spanish... or listening to non-native speakers :) (native speakers are too fast for me). and not only do i have fun with that, i actually want to learn spanish... for fun. yes, ppl (those who've had hs spanish...particularly at clements...) i actually wantto study it for fun. also, i reallywant to study chinese to improve my literacy (which is practially non-existent)... b/c i feel like i should be at least SORT OF literate after so many years of chinese school. i mean goodness..."technically" i've "graduated" from chinese school. i ought to know SOMETHING. and then, i really want to learn japanese for fun... partly b/c lots of video games are in japanese... tee hee ^_^ so yeah. back to the point... i'm just feeling really confused... like i don't know what to do with myself. I don't know what i want to study or what i want to do after college... (work? more school?) i don't even know what i want to do here...for God that is. where i should serve, how... i just... don't know... so this song by Ginny Owens is really about pain/suffering she went through for a time and wasn't able to sing, but if you replace pain and suffering w/ confusion...then this song is kinda how i feel combined with how my attitude about it all should be. such a really beautiful song. i think i'll start learning this on guitar. FUN!

The pathway is broken
And the signs are unclear
And I dont know the reason why you brought me here
But just because you love me the way that you do
Im gonna walk through the valley
If you want me to

Causeim not who I was
When I took my first step
And Im clinging to the promise youre not through with me yet
So if all of these trials bring me closer to you
Then I will go through the fire
If you want me to

It may not be the way I would have chosen
When you lead me through a world thats not my home
But you never said it would be easy
You only said Id never go alone

So when the whole world turns against me
And Im all by myself
And I cant hear you answer my cries for help
Ill remember the suffering your love put you through
And I will go through the valley
If you want me to

oy. i'm so scatterbrained and absent-minded. so i just realized that i've missed yet another class on accident. darn my schedule that is different everyday. doh. i just woke up from my nice looooooong nap (i have a 4hr break on wed btwn two of my classes.) i woke up at 1 to eat lunch and woke my roomie up and told her to hurry up so we could go eat lunch b4 my 12 oclock class. well. because of my previous experience of having gone to my class, gotten confused, and left my class and thus missed it,... i check my schedule b4 class from now on, to make sure i know where i'm going. well. apparently i need to do that right after class. to make sure i know where i'm going next. doh. because i was telling janica hurry up, looked at my schedule card as usual ... and realized... i have no 2 oclock class on wednesdays... 2 oclock is monday... doh. so... really, i missed my phys lect from 11-12. doh. my next class is 4-5:30. *sigh* oh well. not like that lecture ever helps me understand anything. i got some rest and am feeling lots better and hopefully recovered from my long bout of late nights (or earrrrrrrrly mornings depending on how you see it...). i wonder if he took attendance today. hope not. he doesn't sometimes. k well. i guess i'll work on some hw too or something while i wait for my roomie to do hers so i can eat lunch! ^_^

*****

oh nm...we're going now...wonder if it's still open downstairs....

*****

doh. kins corner it is then... bagel w/ strawberry cream cheese and ramen is good :)
eek. this is weird looking? i wonder if blogger decided to change things again...or if this computer is just plain weird. oh well. today's EE302 lab was depressingly boring. no robot work this time...some mundane circuit making w/ the same old resistors and stuff, measuring current and voltage and resistance. ew. like hs physics. only more boring. anyway, so the point is that i'm done already, printed out my homework for the entire rest of the week, and sitting here, so i figured i'd blog about IM football. (ppl who find the previous post lacking in details about ekg can ask me online or in person or leave a tag on tagboard to the left.) so. i had an interesting first day as official snapper of our IM fball team. why i'm snapper, i have no clue. oh well. for those who are fball term impaired as i was prior to having to play it, a snapper is the person who "snaps" or tosses the fball to the QB (quarterback.) so. there's this one play where i'm supposed to catch the ball. so. i was running, turning ... then it was... slipping on wet grass, falling flat on face, whacked in face by fball that i was supposed to catch. doh. of course the whole team was like, "oh my goodness!!!! are you ok?!?!?!?!" ha. i only fell and got hit by the ball... nothing too serious. sure it hurts, but it won't kill me :P though my neck did hurt for the next several mins, but then it was ok. and that's not all. my next adventure as snapper involved my ... incredible name-forgetting, name-confusing abilities. i was supposed to snap the ball to elaine. well. elaine and christine hadn't been to any of our other games or practices, so. yeah. i snapped the ball to .. christine, which resulted in total confusion. doh. sorry. i got your name down now ... just because of that. :P so yeah. on the bright side, on a subsequent pass to me, i caught the ball and was flagged or rather de-flagged immediately after, but still, my first (and only) completion ever. ^_^ woo hoo! k well. turns out the ece lab room comp is just weird. i'm on my comp now and blogger is looking normal :) anyways. tired. i'm gonna either nap or eat. :P hehe.

Monday, September 22, 2003

so many things i should blog... and i have like...10 mins b4 i have to dash off to class again...poo. will work on a more connected sched for spring. well. eep. only 5 mins left. so...right i suppose i'll start w/ ekg. ekg was awesome, simply put. it was really cool to see christians of different ethnicities, all playing, eating, and worshipping together. praising to gospel music...attempting some hip hop...haha...listening to all of the speakers...wow. good fellowshipping w/ppl that's for sure, playing bball, fball, ultimate, dancing (or trying to), playing in the lake (though i didn't really get to do much of that.) the retreat was certainly MORE than worth the $10 we paid.

darn...and now it's time to go to class... so i'll continue later.
starryeyedpb: have a good day! hope your leg doesn't succumb to any further spasms

:P hehe... thanks ^_^

for those of you who'd like to know and don't already... IM football game today... we were totally creamed. mostly cause we were kinda rushed into the game and many of us don't completely understand the game because of lack of experience. the beginning minutes were kinda confused/unorganized, but it got better after a little bit. unfortunately, our opposing team (justin lo's team) scored a bunch of touchdowns by then....oh well. at least they didn't make any more t-downs after that :) unfortunately we didn't score either.... ah well. i think we'll have at least a pretty decent team with practice ... and that's at the very least. so yay! it wasn't too hot today. nice game weather except for the wind. so some brief happenings... stephanie ho is on that team, she's my small group leader... so that was interesting to play D on her :P and then, i switched to blocker/D on jenny wang. oh my goodness.... she is SOOOO fast! that was the first time i was ever a blocker, i was never the blocker during practice... i had no clue what to do... and feeling pretty confused...and so jenny zoomed right past me.... oops. but after a brief explanation of what blockers should do, i ran right in front of jenny the next time she rushed... and since i suppose she expected me to stand still like last time AND b/c she runs SOOOO fast, she ran right into me. she was really sorry. (it's ok! really! didn't hurt or anything :) ) hrm... otherwise... vincent got knocked over... by... i forget who.. a girl i think... he was upset that it happened after the play was over and so wasn't called as a penalty... aww. sorry vincent. anyway, it was fun. i think it'll be even more fun after a little practice and we get better with the rules and stuff. so yeah ... yay for IM football! :) hope we get to play more than 4 games....
on the way to IM football game...

vincent ng: i have water in my refudgerator
me: refudgerator? you mean a refrigerator?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

vincent ng:... stop that...
me: hehehe refudgerator. you can get some fudge from my refugerator....hahahahaha you put in the trash/junk here and out comes fudge! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

ah yes.. i forgot to blog this earlier. so, on thursday, there was this engineering thing at 6pm which is right after my last class on thursday. so i went straight from class to the engr thing and from that to jester because everyone was going to meet at jester "beach" at 10:45 and i decided that i was nearby and i didn't want to have to walk from kinsolving to jester at 10:30 at night alone... (one of the downsides of living in kinsolving). i was just going to hang out in amy or phoebe's room and work on hw. instead, i happened to run into janie and met darlene too :) they were on their way to watch "a mighty wind" at the union, and i went with them. funny movie. very random. hehehe. anyways... on the way there, it was really windy and stuff...(we thought it was ironic...that it was windy and we were on our way to watch "a mighty wind" ... hey well we thought it was funny, ok?) so we're going along and sand/dust/dirt/my own hair is getting in my eye ... and we're walking along talking and.... *whooooooshhhhh* ow! owowowowowow! what!!!! some random....THINGO that i still have no idea what it was.... fell from the tree or something...well it fell from somewhere.... and hit my hand!!! ow! that was really creepy... wish i knew what it was... some guesses (by janie and darlene) include... a twig or a squirrel (<--janie's guess :P) weird. ah well. afterwards, on the way from the union to jester "beach" it was raining... wet and cold *shiver* darlene, who i just met that day, lent me her jacket (awww...thanks! :) ) i've gotta get some sleep... yikes it's late... meant to get more rest ... so that i can go work out... haven't been to gregory gym since last saturday when i went running with phoebe and amy.... *sigh* i know i need to go work out when i start noticing my sharp decrease in appetite...yes...recent discovery of mine: there's a drastic drop in my appetite if i'm not active/excercising enough. and no, unfortunately walking to and from class doesn't really count as being active (darn.) right. bye. sleepy time.

Friday, September 12, 2003

swing!!!! again :) but this time it was kinda different... on thursday it's in this ... dancing room? anyway, it's more "real dancing" (haha...not like me) it tends to go faster, too. i only just learned how this past saturday...so i kinda forgot a little... :P oops. oh well. swing more. swing better. :) saturday :) hopefully i'll retain more? hehe. good thing i don't have class until 11 tomorrow. gotta shower and rest up :) must remember to return darlene's jacket (thanks!) and pay carolyn back (thanks too!) and sign janica (my roomie) and myself up for IM football! yay :)

Tuesday, September 09, 2003

so... i have a class at 4 on monday. i'm not very familiar with my schedule yet, b/c it changes a bit from day to day. so i checked my sched a little while before going to class. somehow i got my EE 302 and EE 306 class mentally mixed up. for some reason, i associate classes with the interior of buildings and the classroom. so ... when i got to EE 306 i somehow thought it was the wrong class. but my prof was there, so i sat a while. after a bit of listening, i was very puzzled to discover he was talking about the exact same thing as last lecture. after a little more waiting to see if he would say anything different, i decided i must have been mistaken and looked at the wrong class on my sched, and proceeded to my other EE class... at the ENS (faraway...lousy construction...). there, i peeked through the little window in the door. not my prof at all. so... COMPLETELY discombobulated, confused to no end, and rather a bit frustrated i gave up, and went to visit friends in jester. i've discovered that many times walks make me feel better. i have this odd tendency to zone out on everything while i'm walking. if i'm with ppl, i'm essentially walking alongside them rather mindlessly, and completely ignore the surroundings, mostly focused on talking to them. if i'm by myself, i also have virtually no awareness of my surroundings and am totally focused on whatever happens to be on my mind. so, it turns out walks by myself turn out to be good thinking times. i sat in alice's room for a bit. and after dinner i sat around in phoebe's room a little too. :) hanging with you ppl (alice, amy, vickie, phoebe) makes me happy ^_^ even if it's just sitting in your rooms sketching while you are all hwing or studying. ha :) love you guys :) well... gotta takle my last and yuckiest physics problem. i've asked a bunch of physics nerds... to no avail... @_@ hope to sleep soon. (yeah right)

Sunday, September 07, 2003

so... after being asked by justin for the millionth time if i wanna go to swing (dancing), i finally decided to go... presumably just to watch... yeah right. hahaha. well, after a) continually stepping with the wrong foot, b) kicking myself repeatedly, c) going the wrong way, and subsequently d) almost tripping myself multiple times.... i learned to swing dance... well kinda. at any rate, i went from 0 dancing skill to some dancing skill so yay. oh yes. phoebe also taught me two-step for about a minute and er... what's it called... gotta ask again. involves kicking forward and back... very cool. lotsa fun ^_^ *yawn* very late. or early. depends on how you see it. must get rest. my 1st liquid service ever ^_^ random note: saw emmy at swing dance... strange. didn't recognize her really until someone said her name. hehe. big campus. small world. good night (morning?). will post pics soon.

Sunday, August 24, 2003

I visited ACC today. Unfortunately, I was very late, because somehow Anna and I both missed seeing each other even though I was standing just inside the door...oh well, hopefully it will go more smoothly next time :) there were lotsa ppl there. I knew some of them so it wasn't too weird :) I don't think, though, that my brain has really processed the fact that I'm now a college student (or at least in a few days anyway). Anyhow, I think I will go to ACC again next week (Liquid?) and visit the other churches later, once I've figured out how I'm going to get there. alrighty. time for lunch.

Thursday, August 21, 2003

i was gonna describe my 3 day dentist visit marathon and how long/annoying/painful it was...but in light of very recent (as in 5 mins ago) news, i have just one thing to say (makes me seem lazy that way doesn't it):

I found my ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for those of you who don't know...hmmm mostly everyone i guess...i'm talking about the only ring i own, the one my whole d-group went to buy at james avery together. awesome awesome...it's been "missing" for...i'd say several months...at least four or five. the sad/happy thing is...it was in my old backpack the whole time. oy. i hate it when i do that...one thing i'd really like to learn from my mommy...the amazing, innate ability...to find everything. probably of particular use to me...since i lose everything :\ . oh well. must go on and finish cleaning/packing since i'm leaving tomorrow for UT austin. don't think i feel anything in particular just yet...just that i really hope i'm not forgetting anything, cause then...well...dangit...uh...i hope i can find/buy in austin...yeah...anyway, i hope i can be back to eat yummy food (my mom's of course) and visit ppl...and give certain ppl stuff (you know who you are...). i'm hoping to be back on labor day weekend...to see the fbcc youth talent show :) ! it'll be nice to see all the high schoolers there!

Monday, August 18, 2003

guess i'm gonna try and keep up with this blog again...wonder how long it'll last?

so...i just got back from the austin boat thingy...basically, my parents' fellowship went to austin, rented a big, two-deck boat for 24 hrs, and boated on lake travis. trouble is, the boat is only designed for ... a certain number of people. there are 4 queen sized beds on the boat, a kitchen, a fridge, and two toilets and one shower in two very small bathroom stalls (think charter bus stall). so problem? they usually allow a max of 15 ppl...we had about...25. so ... hot ... crowded ... cramped in a boat. the boat rocks alot when other boats pass by because of the "waves" from the other boat's wake. i don't generally get seasick so this wasn't too bad...until...they turned off the boat engine and couldn't turn it back on...not to mention we lost the a/c...25 ppl in small space w/no a/c in the summer...bad. they finally got it started again and boated around until about 6pm. the guy who rented us the ship had to then come out in a small boat and come help us tie down, as no one on our boat had any boating experience. the thing is, the guy tied us to three shrub-looking things on the shore. it totally looked like the ship, as big as it was, could tear those tree-shrubs right out of the ground. we got to swim around in the lake, which was pretty clean. nice thing about swimming in a lake...no chlorine...so you don't feel nasty when you get out, in fact your skin feels kinda nice after :) later, the sun started setting and it was really pretty and it reflected red light on the lake and stuff. however...our a/c broke...again. and it didn't come back on...so...it was HOT inside the boat. and one of the ppl decided that we wouldn't call the guy who rented us the boat since it was "late." (the man did say we could call anytime...) so we spent the night on an unairconditioned boat. so it was very very hot and very very humid. also...impossible to sleep. on top deck you can see the stars sooo clearly. definitely much more beautiful than looking at stars in houston/sugar land. after i went down and finally got to sleep, not long after all the adults playing cards finished up and started going to the bathroom and turning on and off various lights...making it VERY difficult to sleep. i walked around a bit and tried going back to sleep. woke up at 6 am. it was really quiet and peaceful on the lake...very nice. you can still see stars and the moon, there were coyotes on the other shore and there were little 'plop' noises from fish in the lake. it was kinda dark, but i did my quiet time up there on the top deck of the boat....pretty cool...although i got a mosquito bite almost as soon as i went up. after going back down and putting on some bug repellent, i went back up to watch the sunrise....really beautiful. at about 9 we got to swim in the lake again...awesome, but tiring...and works up an appetite! at 10 the guy came to fix our a/c (yay!) and we boated off somewhere else in the middle of the lake and got to swim there in some deeper water. it was harder to swim since there were some bigger waves there and some current, but it was still fun. i got to drive the boat some...cool cool. like driving a car...only it's a TON bigger and it has "delay steering." it starts turning in the back first, then the front...so it takes several seconds for the boat to start turning after you turn the wheel. i got the hang of it after awhile...but it freaked me out the first time i turned...because it didn't seem to be turning. of course when we got back...a bunch of the adults went to complain to the guy who rented us the boat about how the a/c didn't work the whole night and how horrible it was in the boat at night w/o a/c. in the end they got the guy to pay for the boat's fuel...asians :)... on the way back, we had to figure out who and what stuff would go to which cars...since we had to drop by UT to pick up a fridge...finally we all took off, and after much phone calling my parents got to UT and picked up the fridge. our van was sooooo stuffed. we drove back to sugar land and dropped off the fridge at my friend's house...then, our car broke down...and wouldn't start. so there we were in my friend's driveway...stuck...tired...and surrounded by mosquitos...doh. fortunately it didn't take long for my dad to get the car started again...(apparently it overheated?) we went home, showered and rushed off to some dinner we were invited to. their house is a hazard to my health....joyce knows all about that...they have this bending stair case...it turns partway down, so the step is really narrow on one side and really wide on the other...i practically fell down it the first time...and almost fell just about every other time. also their wood floor is an inch or two higher than their tile...and i keep forgetting it steps down...and nearly fall over...man i'm clumsy. got home at about 10, 10:30 at which point i collapsed in bed :)

Monday, August 11, 2003

hrm...i see i haven't blogged in a good long while. Well, got back from camp yesterday...dead tired, but it was totally worth it! Long before the school year was over I began to invite my friends to camp. I figured this is that last year I'd be able to do it. As time wore on and I received no encouraging responses, I was starting to feel a bit frantic and discouraged all at once. Before camp, I prayed so hard that my friend Jennifer would come. I'm not really a particularly persuasive person and my prayers became more fervent by the day. My attitude was less "help me convince" and more "let the come somehow someway cause I can't get them to no matter what I do or say." Looking back on it, I was relying totally on God to help me with it and not on myself as I realized I could not do it alone. God mightily answered my prayer when Jennifer decided to come just in time to register on the very last day. I was beside myself in sheer joy when she told me she would come. This year's eXtreme camp was indeed extreme in many ways. The speaker, Ryan Kwan was one of the best speakers I have ever encountered, mostly because he made everything so simple, so clear, so relavant, and so powerful. As each fun-filled, action-packed, and amazing day of camp went by I was amazed by what I learned, from workshops and Pastor Ryan's sermons. Jennifer seemed to be enjoying camp more or less, but with only a very vague idea of how she really felt about everything she was seeing, hearing, and experiencing for likely the first time I was feeling more and more anxious toward the end of camp. The last night we had campfire as usual, though this year there was no campfire. Instead we sat around the pool in our assigned small groups with candles. It was really cold at night next to the pool with the wind blowing, and I huddled in the chair as my jacket wasn't much help. Near the end, I heard someone get up to my left, where Theresa's small group was sitting. Naturally, I turned to see who it was, and after several seconds I was stunned to discover that it was Jennifer. For one, I don't recall any time where I've heard her use a microphone. Secondly, I don't believe I have ever seen her stand up and say anything in front of other people (then again i wasn't in debate). At any rate, I was totally upright and sitting on the edge of my chair by the time she'd reached the mic, not knowing what to expect. When she was thanking me and Theresa, all I could think was "praise God, thank God," because I'm certain I couldn't have done a thing without Him and His faithfulness in answering my prayers. As Jennifer went on to express her interest in becoming a christian, I felt a great wave of relief as I finally really heard from her heart and an overwhelming joy. She made her way back to her seat, and I could think of nothing to say or do except to embrace my best friend and sit next to her for the rest of the campfire. I hope that very soon she shall be my sister in Christ and anxiously await that day, for I can think of but a few things that could give me greater joy than that day. So for those of you who perservere in reading this very long post, I would like to share the most important thing I have learned from all of this. To depend wholly on God for everything, for we cannot even live to see the next sunrise without His providence. When we succeed and accomplish the goals we set for ourselves, we often forget that we need God everyday, every step of the way. In John15:5 Jesus says, "apart from me you can do nothing." I want to remember that and NEVER to forget it. I think remembering this experience and this verse will help me to fully depend on God and surrender my all to him each day, which I find so difficult sometimes. Finally, for those who, like me, still have unsaved friends, surrender to God, pray fervently to Him that He will work in their hearts so that if they are unwilling to even listen to the gospel now that they will open up to it, if they are open to the gosel that they would hear and be interested to learn more about the Lord, if they are interested let them even more and believe the truth of Jesus' sacrifice. No matter how opposed to christianity your friend may seem, realize that you cannot do it on your own, only God can change people's hearts. Submit to God and pray persistently to Him. Live your life in a way that reflects Jesus in your life. Then simply wait faithfully. Wait faithfully for God's timing whenever it might be.

While in Vegas with my family...
I was walking next to my cousin, the youngest of the ones there (he's 15). As we pass by a building, a lady in a white shirt whose intent still eludes me says, "Hi! Where are you from?" Still walking past her, we say we're from houston. Then she proceeds to ask, "Are you married?" .......right.....we said no. After a we'd walked a short distance away from the lady, my cousin said, "I really wanted to turn around and tell her, i'm 15 and that's my cousin." hmmmmm.....vegas is a weird place, but it has really nice hotels and buffets and pools, not to mention awesome shows like Cirque de Soleil and Blue Man Group, both of which i highly recommend by the way....so that's it for now....i need a nice cool shower and a nice long nap.... :)

Something funny happened on the way back from discipleship today in oph's car..(words copied and pasted from oph [hope you don't mind]...apparently she remembers my exact words better than me... :p ) We were talking about how...eventful our car rides together tend to be...our many roadkill sightings were brought up and...

[from oph's blog]
... so we're driving down palm royale talking about road kill.......

oph: yea i saw a dead cat on the road.
jenn: oh.. yea.. this morning someone saw an overweight on the way to squirrel
oph: huh?
jenn: did i just say what i thought i said?
oph: huh?
jenn: what i meant to say was, someone saw an overweight squirrel on the way to school.

and after that we laughed our heads off...or well at least until my face hurt and her stomach hurt.....and STILL laughing.. if ur not laughing now.. i guess it was one of those things where u had to be there...^_^

back to my commentary...i laughed so hard for so long that not only did our faces and my stomach hurt...i teared...haha...that's the only time i can think of i've "happy cried" :' )

the story my sis made on sanrio.com today...haha:

New Year's Eve was coming up and Hello Kitty was planning a exciting party at the mall. She sent invitations to all of her closest we, then went to buy they, to decorate with. This would look fun hanging on the present, said her twin sister, Mimmy. After leaving the store with a bag full of balloons, Hello Kitty decided to go to the cake shop to get yummy cookies for her friends to jump. These computer-filled fruits look delicious! she told the shopkeeper. And I will take some of that fruit sprite to play, too! she added. Finally, it was new year's eve. All of Hello Kitty's we arrived wearing green they. wow! announced Hello Kitty as she greeted her friends. Just before midnight, they all held doorknobs and counted down the seconds. When the clock struck 152, everyone screamed yeah, and threw their dogs in the t-shirt.

hmm....new to this blog thing...looked interesting...going to give it a try...my mom always wanted me to keep a journal, but i was too lazy :p i figure this is a good way to do that.

there was a "BIG Time FUN Carnival" at hs fellowship today! very awesome. lots of cool games, like finger jousting! good camp memories...haha :) there was also "shoot xiao...manned by xiao of course. also arcade/video games, cool music, cake walk, baloon darts, knockout bball, connecting the dots picture while using a mirror, "wash the dog" water gun game, puttputt, face (or arm) painting, and dueling knights (equipment sooo heavy)! oh yes, and bea and ophie are VERY strong....*nod*nod* the air disc guns at the shoot xiao booth were quirky, hard to aim. phil was undefeated at dueling knights! there were some little bitty cookie type things shaped like bees, they were yummy! gloria made some extra yummy brownies...mmmmm brownies! i discovered that i'm terrible at puttputt golf, haha, ophie knows! tracing numbered dots by looking at their reflection in a tiny mirror is lots harder than it looks, sometimes your hand gets in the way and you can't see what number you're on and where the next one is.....numbers were small and hard to read, heehee :) played jousting knights with bea....i beat her first round...then phil took the heavy head things off and she totally killed me, haha :P too much fun.... well that's about it for today, that was quite interesting.... :) another day then.
